Broomstick: A Handwritten Font for Creative Projects

There I was, staring at a blank brand board, trying to find the right visual voice for a small-batch skincare line. The client wanted something that felt personal, authentic, and a little whimsical. After testing a few options, I landed on Broomstick—a unique handwritten font that felt just right.

What Is Broomstick?

Broomstick is a premium font with a distinct handwritten style. Its strokes are fluid, slightly irregular, and carry a sense of warmth and approachability. It’s not too ornate, nor too casual—it sits in a sweet spot between modern typography and traditional calligraphy. The font has a personality that feels like it was written by hand, which makes it ideal for brands looking to convey a human touch.

It’s part of the Script Amp collection, which means it’s designed for creative use rather than long-form text. Broomstick works best as a display or accent font, adding a touch of character to headlines, logos, and design elements where visual interest matters most.

Testing Broomstick in Real Projects

I first tried Broomstick on a logo concept for a boutique skincare brand. The font added a soft, friendly energy that matched the brand’s values. When paired with a simple sans serif for the tagline, it created a nice contrast without clashing. The swashes and ligatures gave it a refined feel, while the slight imperfections made it feel more genuine.

On a packaging mockup, Broomstick stood out on product labels. It looked great on a minimalist label with a single line of text, but I noticed that when used in larger blocks, it could become a bit overwhelming. That’s why I recommend using it sparingly—especially in commercial design where clarity and consistency matter.

For a business card, Broomstick worked well as the main headline. It caught the eye and added a personal touch. But when I tried it for body text, the readability suffered. The irregular shapes and tight spacing made it hard to read at smaller sizes, which is a common limitation of many handwritten fonts.

When Broomstick Shines

Broomstick excels in projects that benefit from a handmade, organic aesthetic. It’s perfect for social media graphics, website headers, and editorial design where visual storytelling is key. I’ve seen it work well in greeting cards, seasonal promotions, and even in print ads where a human element is desired.

As a logo font, Broomstick can be a strong choice if the brand wants to communicate creativity, craft, or a personal connection. However, it’s less suited for formal or corporate branding where a clean, neutral typeface might be more appropriate.

In web design, Broomstick can add a unique flair to hero sections or section headings. But again, it’s important to pair it with a more readable font for body text. Webfont availability is crucial here—make sure the font is properly licensed for digital use.

Font Pairing and Practical Tips

Pairing Broomstick with a serif or sans serif font can create a balanced look. A classic serif like Playfair Display or a clean sans like Montserrat can provide contrast and improve readability. For a more modern feel, pairing it with a bold display font can also work well in certain contexts.

If you’re considering Broomstick for a project, test it in different sizes and formats. See how it looks on a shop sign, a product label, or a printed card. Also, check the font’s multilingual support if your project involves other languages.

Before using Broomstick in client work, always verify the commercial licensing. Make sure the font allows for use in branding, packaging, and digital assets. Some fonts have restrictions that could limit your creative freedom down the line.

Final Thoughts

Broomstick is a versatile and expressive font that brings a warm, handmade quality to any design. It’s ideal for brands that want to stand out with a personal touch, especially in areas like packaging, social media, and logo design. While it may not be the best choice for long-form text or formal settings, its charm and uniqueness make it a valuable addition to any designer’s toolkit.

Whether you’re working on a small-batch product line, a creative studio identity, or a local café refresh, Broomstick offers a fresh and authentic alternative to more rigid typefaces. Just remember to use it wisely and pair it thoughtfully to get the best results.
